Developers

I already participate in other Communities. How is click2try different?

Our goal is to bridge the gap between the Open Source world and the business world. click2try has invested in developing a unique venue where Open Source software can be showcased in the best possible light in order to unleash its enormous value to those who may be reluctant to venture down this path in any other way. Our services are suitable for business professionals, IT professionals and Open Source software developers. Therefore, the Community we attract has a diverse perspective on Open Source software.

How do I submit applications I’ve written for consideration on click2try?

Please go to our Community Forum and post a new thread under "Suggested Applications." Be sure to include the URL of the application so we can locate and evaluate the software.

How do I recommend other applications for your catalog?

Please go to our Community Forum and post a new thread under "Suggested Applications." Be sure to include the URL of the application so we can locate and evaluate the software.

If you feature an application I’ve written, will I get credit for it?

Yes, all credit for the application goes to the software developers. Our ambition is to showcase the best Open Source applications available and surround them with relevant and unique content that makes it easy and convenient for anyone with a computer and a browser to access them.

What should I do if I find a bug on click2try?

If you uncover a bug, please contact Support so we can determine the source of the problem.

While click2try does not warrant the applications we feature, we take full responsibility for issues that are specific to our site and will remedy them accordingly. If, however, after investigating your issue we find the application’s Open Source code to be problematic, we will notify the original developer(s) on your behalf, at your request, but cannot pursue or ensure the issue’s resolution.

Open Source Software

I’m interested in your applications, but isn’t security an issue with Open Source software?

Security is no more or less of an issue with Open Source software than it is with other kinds of software. Open Source security evaluation relies on “peer review,” as in the scientific community. The philosophy is “more eyes mean better security.” Open Source supporters believe that because all the source code is available for programmers around the world to review, it is more likely that a security hole will be identified and fixed. With non-open source software, flaws and security holes are hidden—also known as “security through obscurity.”

What’s the difference between Open Source software applications I can find elsewhere and the applications on click2try?

The Open Source applications on click2try are configured into our jukebox system to allow users easy and immediate access directly from their computer’s desktop, without having to download any software or configure their systems in any way. click2try also has a one-of-a-kind catalog that offers the Community a wealth of information on the application of interest.

How do you decide which Open Source applications to feature on click2try?

To start building our catalog, we selected some of the most popular Open Source applications available. Moving forward we plan to solicit suggestions from our users and the Community, and monitor market trends.
